  I suppose the same could also be achieved by manually or batch tagging all images in a category "Club X", but by allowing category level tags that apply to all images in it if you like would make that process a bit easier and allow the use of a meaningful tag in the module filters as oppose to using category id's on their own.

  thanks for taking my idea and attempting to implement it, delighted! i really look forward to the result!

  I just had another thought having worked with joomgalleryfo rthe last two years and making do with the fuctionality that exists now:

  maybe the same tagging functionality could also be extended to not just to individual images but also categories at the same time?

  as an example i run a website for a nightclub photographer, who shoots in about 15 different venues each month. each night's album gets uploaded separately but i really miss a feature to display and combine images from the same venue in one place easily. the way around that problem i use at the moment is to use the joomimages module to display top 100 most hits images and filtering the module by category ids of that club's albums, which means manually updating these modules with the new id's each week as new ones are added to include them.

  That's obviously a bit complicated and awkward to maintain at a large scale so if you could extend the tags feature to categories too at the same time, that would be amazing.

  I could just use the name of the club as a tag in the relevant categories for this example and it would allow the joom_images modules to be "set once and forget" to display the top images of all categories tagged "Club X" and they would never need to be updated with meaningless ID numbers as new categories are added and the gallery grows.

  This is really great thing. I like it to work this way:
  Category system should remain the same, but add the ability to add tags to individual images.
